Fast Friday – One Last Feel-Good Story For The Week

soupSo many of you told me that my unplanned week of stories of people helping people have inspired and encouraged you, I couldn’t help but share one more.

A 14-year-old kid in Oregon says it only takes $2 to change the world, and I couldn’t agree more!

Julien Leitner’s goal is to get 1 million people to donate just $2 each, and vote for which of 3 worthy organizations they would like the money to go to.  When he reaches his $2 million goal, he will give the money to the charity with the most votes.  So far, he’s raised nearly $20,000!

Those darn kids these days.

I tell you – he’s doing something a lot more positive than I was at his age!

He told The Oregonian:

The “aha!” moment came when a fifth-grade science teacher quoted Archimedes during a lesson on levers.

“Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand, and I can move the Earth.”

Leitner made a connection between the quote’s mathematical significance and his do-gooder goals.

“It hit me that I might not be able to do something on my own, but there has to be a billion other people like me who want to make a difference but feel they can’t,” Leitner says. “I thought, ‘What if everyone just pooled their resources?'”

Ah! How true it is.  Just like Stone Soup! You don’t have to have “all the ingredients.”  You just have to share what you have.
